Stop the Revolving Door (SRD)

Stop the Revolving Door is a program designed to reduce recidivism, improve employment rates, increase average earnings, and help offenders successfully transition from prison back into the community.  Participants must have been released within 60 days from a state or federal correctional facility to be eligible.

Stop the Revolving Door program is a collaboration between the Colorado Department of Labor, Colorado Department of Corrections, and community-and faith-based service providers such as Turnabout, Inc.

Key to the support services provided by SRD is Turnabout’s Employment Search Program. This 13 ½ hour course, covering 3 days, includes training in interviewing prep/skills, goal setting, and resume building.

The Mentoring Program is another critically important element in the successful transition of all participants. A cognitive approach to behavior change is the foundation of this support service. Participants are encouraged to examine their traditional ways of thinking and decision making. Clearly identifying thinking distortions and learning to incorporate more appropriate approaches to life’s difficulties and challenges is the hallmark of all mentoring efforts. Positive re-enforcement and role model ship help to drive this programs’ success.

For some, a partnership with a community-or faith-based program can often provide a sense of community and the support needed to make it through the transition back into society. Of course, one is free to choose the approach that works best for the individual. The Stop the Revolving Door program provides an alternative for those who feel that a community or faith-based program is the most appropriate choice to meet their needs.
