Training for Success

The Turnabout, Inc. career center offers work readiness, job search and work skills training. Work readiness includes life skills or soft skills training, while employment search includes resumes, applications, search strategies and interviewing.

Marketable work skills training is offered to intensive program participants and on a fee for service basis at little cost.

Turnabout has provided marketable work skills training since 2001, when we began offering hands-on construction training to eligible program participants. We continue to customize our training programs based on current labor market information in order to give participants the best chance for success.

In addition to the work skills training shown, we also offer an intensive three-day Employment Skills Program (ESP) to prepare program participants for employment search and career advancement. ESP provides resume preparation, job application, and search strategies classes, as well as life skills, training in how to access educational opportunities, applying for financial aid, and more.

KeyTrain® and WorkKeys®

Turnabout works closely with Denver's Office of Economic Development (OED) Workforce Centers/One Stop Career Centers. They provide free computer training such as Computer Basics, Beginning Word, and Internet/E-mail, all of which support participant success. Turnabout assists participants to successfully navigate the application process for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds which can be leveraged to provide additional vocational training opportunities with up to 12 months of in-demand industry training through WIA-approved providers.

In 2011, Turnabout implemented KeyTrain® and WorkKeys® integration within our services. KeyTrain® prepares participants for the National Work Readiness Certificate, which provides them with the credentials they need to demonstrate their skill levels to employers. KeyTrain® is a self-paced learning tool covering math, reading and locating information. Turnabout offers KeyTrain at no charge to all participants.

Community Collaboration

We also have strategic partnerships with Community College of Denver, Red Rocks Gateway Program, Emily Griffith Opportunity School, and with private industry training providers to offer job training customized to the needs of our participants.

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hour - Construction
    10 hours; over two days

    OSHA - 10 is a safety course for workers in the construction field including renewable energy and energy efficiency. It includes a combination of audio-visuals, lecture, and hands-on, which allows for different types of learning styles.

  • Highway Flagging
    2 to 3 hours; Offered twice monthly

    • This course includes review and preparation for the Highway Flagging Proficiency Examination, and provides Flagger Certification upon achieveing a score of 80% or better on the exam. All aspects of CDOT regulations and requirements for flaggers are covered - including uniform, personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment set up, and safety.

  • Forklift Basics
    4 to 5 hours; Offered at warehouse site

  • EDDCO Industrial Training program begins with equipment safety. Participants are then trained on a sitting, counter-balance forklift. Participants also learn use and operation of the electric pallet jack. Upon completion, participants have skills needed for entry-level warehouse jobs requiring forklift certification or experience.

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule

  • This certificate course will train participants in specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Under the EPA rule, beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978 must be trained and certified.
